How to Claim
Mileage expenses can be claimed from your employer or against your end of year tax return. You can claim the following mileage rates:
- Car and van drivers can claim 45p per mile for the first 10,000 miles;
- Car and van drivers can claim 25ppm after the 10, 000 mile threshold;
- Motorcyclists can claim 24 ppm regardless of the distance covered;
- Cyclists can claim 20 ppm regardless of the distance covered.
To claim at the above mileage rates, you must keep a mileage log recording all your business mileage expenses. This can be done using a mileage log book, a mileage log spreadsheet, or online: sign up to the Tripcatcher mileage log, the no-fuss way to log your business mileage, using the "Sign Up" link at the top of the screen.
